Dukan Diet {Week 2}

Phew! I made it through the Attack Phase of the diet and have been in the Cruise Phase for six days now. The Cruise Phase is the where I’ll lose most of my weight over a longer period of time, hopefully no more than six months.

In case you’re wondering, in the Cruise Phase you’re allowed to eat all the things you were in Attack but you alternate days of pure protein (PP) and protein + vegetables (PV).  On the vegetable days it’s not a free-for-all with any kind of veggie you want. You still have to avoid vegetables high in carbohydrates like potatoes, corn, rice, and legumes. You want to eat mostly protein with vegetables more as side dishes or flavor enhancers. You also get to add half a tablespoon of oat bran a day, making a total allowance of two tablespoons a day.

What I like most about PV days is having more choices for my meals. For lunch on PV days I eat a grilled chicken salad with tomatoes and the Dukan Basic Vinaigrette. The flavor and texture is amazing after all that protein and it’s very filling. The dressing is so simple and very flavorful.

Dukan Basic Vinaigrette 2 (from The Dukan Diet by Pierre Dukan)

  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon mineral water
  • 2 tablespoons sherry, raspberry or balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix together until well blended.

The Dijon mustard I have is a bit spicy and gives the salad a nice kick. You can add any kind of herbs you like as well as garlic cloves. I use about a half cup of the pre-cooked diced chicken from Kroger on top of some hearts of Romaine lettuce with a few cherry tomatoes. Yum! You can find more dressing recipes here.

So, I’m still going pretty strong on this diet. I love that I’ve already gotten results– BIG motivator for me. I’ve lost a total of seven pounds so far. Seven pounds in less than two weeks? I’ll take it!

I try not to think about how long it’s going to take for me to lose all this weight. If I start to think about the fact that I can’t have peanut butter or real chocolate cake for another five and a half months, it makes me feel deprived and- let’s face it- a little sad. When I start to think that way I have to give myself a little pep talk. Instead of thinking of what I can’t have right now I think of how awesome it will feel once I’m down to my True Weight. I think of how great it will be to not get depressed when I look in the mirror or at photos of myself. That’s what keeps me going! I also like to think of something another Dukaner said on the Dukan Diet Facebook page: “Just think that in a year you’ll be a skinny person eating that piece of cake!” Yes! It’s not forever. Soon I will be able to eat freely again.

Yesterday I made this little photo collage and stuck it on my monitor at work to keep me motivated. On the left I’m 18 and about 135 pounds. On the right I’m 25 and about 191.


I used to be quite the hottie, right? 😉 . I’ve been there once, I know I can do it again– just have to take it one day at a time!
