Anniversary Celebration

Posted by on Jan 10, 2012 in Blog, Feature | 2 comments

Back in early October, my husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. We were married on October 10, 2010. I was eight months pregnant, so I didn’t really feel like much of a bride. Here’s a photo from the day:

We got married at the picturesque Old Mill in North Little Rock with only a few family members and close friends.

Not everyone was able to make it so I promised that we would have a “real” wedding with a party for our first anniversary. It was a little stressful, but also fun to plan a nice party with decorations and everything. I decided to do a woodland theme. Here’s my Pinterest board where I saved most of my inspirations if you’re interested. I didn’t get to implement everything I wanted, but it still turned out pretty nice. I loved having all of my family there and getting to decorate for my little faux wedding.

I was busy being a hostess so didn’t get to take a lot of great photos of my decor. Luckily, I’ve got some great shots from Bonnie, our kids’ grandmother.

Here’s a photo of me wearing the first dress I’ve ever made. It didn’t turn out exactly the way I wanted but overall I’m pretty happy with it.  When my mother came to visit right before she got married, she and I made our bouquets. I love the way it turned out.

I set up a table in the backyard for our guests. The weather was lovely and it was still fairly warm out. I love my bunting! It’s currently hanging up in my living room, and it always makes me smile. I just used some scrapbook paper and twine for an easy, no sew garland.

Here’s a closer look of the table along with Bonnie’s boyfriend, Jimmy, Zali, Ophelia and Lex.

I like this one even though it’s out of focus. You can see Anthony’s goofy grin there on the left. 🙂

I love the way all the little elements came together. I made the little mushrooms with polymer clay and used Mod Podge to make the heart river rocks.

Here’s me and my tiny Lex! You can kind of see my hair do here, which my wonderful best friend, Ginger, did. She did my hair for my real wedding, too. 🙂  The table was really pretty in the candle light. The photos don’t do it justice.

My boys ♥

And a lovely family photo. 🙂

Part of me would love for this to be an annual event, but the more practical (read: lazier) part of me is glad that it’s not. Oh well, there are always Lex’s birthday parties.

I’m on day five of the Attack Phase of the Dukan Diet and it is getting pretty rough. In case you’re wondering, the rules for the Attack Phase are thus:

  • Eat as much as you want of the following:
    • Lean meats
    • Non-fat dairy products
    • Egg whites and up to 2 eggs a day
    • Sugar free gelatin
    • Calorie free beverages
  • Drink at least 1.5 liters of water a day
  • Reduce salt intake
  • Walk briskly for at least 20 minutes a day

The first two days were just fine– no cravings at all. Once I went back to work, everything changed. I have one of those jobs where you can’t get up whenever you want so it was hard not being able to get up and grab a snack whenever I wanted. I also did a poor job of planning ahead and didn’t always bring enough food. Here they provide some snacks for all employees, too, so you can see that I was surrounded by temptation. Still, I kept my eye on the prize.

When I get depressed about not getting to eat any of my favorite foods, I tell myself that it is only temporary and it will be WORTH IT!  I think about how good I’ll feel about my body once I’ve lost all the weight and all the things I’ll be able to do that I don’t feel comfortable doing now. And this is the toughest phase for sure. Only one more day until I can eat vegetables! 🙂 I never thought I’d be daydreaming about all the vegetable dishes I could eat! I’m going to eat so much broccoli and mushrooms and tomatoes. It will be glorious!

The exercise thing seems to be the easiest part of the diet to follow. After I put Lex to bed, I take a brisk 20 minute walk near the house. Vinnie even came with me the other night. I guess I should do some more of my Biggest Loser game, but that was hard! Yeah, yeah…probably should do that tonight.

I was disappointed this morning when I did not lose any weight. From all the accounts I have read, I have the impression that you lose at least a little weight each day during the Attack. It makes you automatically start asking what you did wrong. Maybe I didn’t drink enough water. The only sort of slip up I had was today when I ate three beef hot dogs for lunch–plain without a bun. I think they had way too much fat but they were delicious. I hope it doesn’t mess me up. 🙁 I don’t think I’ll be doing that again.

I would like to say that I’m very pleased with all the users on the Dukan Diet Facebook page. You can get very quick responses both from them and the Dukan Diet representatives. There’s no need to pay for coaching when there’s so many free resources out there. The plan this weekend is to utilize those resources and make some tastier meals.

In case you’re interested in my stats:

  • Starting weight: 191 lbs.
  • Day One: 190
  • Day Two: 188
  • Day Three: 186
  • Day Four: 186

I’m going to stick with it and cross my fingers that it will work for me like it has for many others. Still, I can’t wait to be through!

New Year’s Resolutions

Posted by on Jan 3, 2012 in Dukan Diet | 0 comments

It may be a bit cliche, but I actually like the idea of making resolutions for a new year. It makes you feel like you get a fresh start. So, I have made a couple of resolutions this year.

The first one is to lose weight! I sort of resolved to do this last year when I was all whacked out on postpartum hormones but stopped when it seemed to effect my milk production. This year Lex is nursing a lot less and eating more solid foods. In fact, weaning him would be a really good thing. So, no more excuses; time to shape up! I am on day 3 of the Dukan Diet and have already lost 3 lbs. It’s getting a bit rough not being able to have any carbs whatsoever (except oat bran), but I’m very determined this time around. I really like that on this diet you can eat as much as you want of the allowed foods, that Dr. Dukan predicts when you will reach your goal weight on his website and tells you how long you will be in each phase and that the rules are very clearly defined and easy to follow. There are also tons of forums and blogs about the Dukan Diet out there. I haven’t read any independent reviews that said the diet did not work. In fact, all the ones I have read said if you do it, you will lose weight. I’ve also joined SparkPeople to get moral support, and my mom is being my weight loss buddy. I feel very confident that I can do this and keep the weight of after.

The second resolution is to set a blogging schedule and stick to it! I know my posting has been kind of erratic, and I want to make it a much more regular thing. Blogging helps me keep finding new projects and stay productive! The last three months were pretty hectic because I let my big projects pile up and bit off a little more than I could chew. Hopefully my new schedule will help me with that, too.

Just two little resolutions in the spirit of keeping my goals realistic. Happy New Year, everyone!
